LBP's logo is a modern interpretation of the ancient Egyptian symbol Ma'at (pronounced muh-at or may-et), which literally means "truth", "order", "balance", "rationality", and "justice personified". As a principle, it represented the spirit in which justice was applied rather than a detailed legalistic exposition of rules as in Jewish law. Ancient Egyptian rulers had to apply the principle to meet the complex needs of the emergent Egyptian state that embraced diverse peoples with conflicting interests. Pharaohs are often shown wearing the Ma'at feather to show their role in enforcing the laws of the land. Historians also believe that Ma'at was the name of the just and fair princess who wore the feather of an ostrich in her headdress as to represent her commitment to justice.
